Selection of coaches to the HUYS Competitive
Program shall be based on years of coaching
experience at the competitive level, licensure,
playing experience, demeanor, ability to
work with youth players and their parents,
ability to teach the game, commitment to
national guidelines for age-appropriate training
and development, and commitment to the mission
and vision of HUYS. Selection shall be made
by the Director of Coaching/Player Development
subject to HUYS Board approval.
Head coaches within the
HUYS Competitive
Program shall have a State
D license or above.
This is a mandate from
USYSNv for competitive
team travel and competition
in the State
Cup and out-of-state tournaments.
Additionally,
all coaches must acquire
and maintain a NYSCA
Coaches Certification.
Acquisition of national
licenses and certifications
are encouraged
and supported by HUYS.
Coaches shall sign and
abide by the Coaches
Code of Ethics.
HUYS competitive coaches
shall share their
expertise and/or participate
in educational
clinics or workshops, as
appropriate, to
the benefit of HUYS recreational
coaches
and players.
Coaches within the HUYS
Competitive Program
understand that the Director
of Coaching/Player
Development has general
oversight of the
Competitive Program and
will provide input
and direction to coaches
and when appropriate.
Players, coaches, administrators
and parents
shall be provided training
and educational
opportunities commensurate
with national
guidelines for the development
of competitive
soccer. All individuals
participating in
the HUYS Competitive Program
are encouraged
to take advantage of such
training and educational
opportunities.
Families of competitive
team players should
expect to pay a standard
monthly assessment
for coaching services and
related expenses.
HUYS will help facilitate
access to training
sites; acquisition of needed
equipment, uniforms,
etc. for competitive teams
and coaches, and
promote its teams' participation
in competitive
soccer in the leagues,
the state, and regional
and national tournaments.
